Highlands Church offered its second Sunday morning "sneak peek" into an HBI class, highlighting the topic of "What Happens When People Die." The two-week class drew nearly 100 people and addressed such topics as the intermediate state for believers and unbelievers and what their existence looks like, the rewards or condemnation each will face respectively, the issue of near-death experiences, the destiny of infants who die, and descriptions of heaven and hell. All students also received detailed notes and were able to keep the actual instructor presentations.
But the class was much more than an academic endeavor. "We saw this class as an opportunity to share the gospel and also encourage people to actively share their faith and to disciple people," says pastor Ed Lutz. "HBI provides biblical training for practical ministry. We want to create 'doers,' not just 'thinkers.'"
As a result of the class, Lutz also hopes people will consider apply and take advantage of upcoming class this spring. HBI offers daytime and evening classes as well as a host of online courses.
